He developed his craft designing print and interactive media\u2014creating identities, marketing material and web sites for Fortune 500 companies, non-profit organizations and other institutions across a wide spectrum of industries. John&#8217;s talents have been employed by Mark Oldach Design Ltd, <a href=\"http:\/\/liska.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Liska + Associates Inc.<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/arcww.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Arc Worldwide<\/a> (a Leo Burnett company, formerly Semaphore Partners and Giant Step). Since 2005 John has maintained a freelance design practice working as a free agent developing user-friendly brand experiences online.<\/p>\n<p>From 2008 to 2010, John held the title of full-time Professor of Graphic Design at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scad.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Savannah College of Art and Design<\/a> (SCAD) in Savannah, GA. There he taught courses primarily focused on web design, but also typography, digital illustration and design methodologies. Prior to this position, John taught courses and assisted professors at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.saic.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">The School of the Art Institute of Chicago<\/a> (SAIC) while earning his MFA in Visual Communication. John received his undergraduate degree, a BFA in Graphic Design, from <a href=\"http:\/\/www.risd.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Rhode Island School of Design<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Late in 2003, looking for a reprieve from pushing pixels, John enrolled in a letterpress course at <a href=\"http:\/\/bookandpaper.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">The Center for Book and Paper Arts<\/a> at Columbia College in Chicago, IL. Within months he had serendipitously acquired three letterpresses (one quite small, the others quite large) and began developing his skills as a printer. Now located in Sydney, Australia, only one press (a Sigwalt Nonpareil No. 25) made the journey across the Pacific.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Bio John DeVylder began working as a graphic designer 1996.
